The Ogun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the Chairmanship of Hon Sikirulai Ogundele, has saluted the courage of the party’s National Planning Committee, headed by Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, for its decision to re-position the party by dissolving the National Executive of the party and setting up of Caretaker Committee.

A statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Malik Olamilekan Ibitoye added that it is not a lie that the PDP has faced some challenges in recent times, and that the greatest reality is always the willingness and tenacity of members to assiduously work to ensure this political ship is steered to safety.

Malik said further in the statement, which was made available to journalists, that: “this has been demonstrated, again, by party members and leaders at the Port Harcourt Convention.

“By our actions at the convention on Saturday, 21 May, the PDP can be likened to a phoenix capable of re generating itself; rising from its own ashes and subduing dooms’ predictions.

“This great feat is sired by the genuine love for the party and determination of members to steady the voyage despite the turbulent political sea we have continually traveled on.

“The day has broken for all forces and political leanings to return to base, integrate and build formidable strengths for future’s greater battle.”

The party emphasised that the post-convention period is a time for rebuilding, reconstructing, and recovering the party from the morass of brinkmanship, disunity and meaningless trifles already overcome by the gathering at Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

It added that as the only pan-Nigeria party, the PDP can’t afford to put Nigerians in greater despair than they are currently in, and that no thanks to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) government.

According to the statement, every PDP member must know that the PDP is a Nigerian project, saying that it shares a common fate with the country’s destiny and democracy, adding that “we must not lose hope, but trudge on to achieve unity and victory.”

Malik stressed that “Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele and all members of Ogun State PDP hereby declared total support for all the decisions taken at the National Convention, where the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff- led National Executives was dissolved and a Caretaker Committee led by former Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi as Chaiman and Senator Ben Obi as Secretary was set up with a mandate to hold a credible National Convention, where new National Working Committee members will be elected within 90 days.”

The party then assured all members of the PDP in the state ‎of its resolve, “in the spirit and letter of the Port Harcourt Convention, to work assiduously towards uniting all various interests and reposition the party for sure victory in the 2019 general elections.”
