Will Smith is making his musical comeback. The former Fresh Prince has revealed that he is working on a new album and is “pretty certain” he will embark on a world tour with his old sidekick DJ Jazzy Jeff.

The 47-year-old surprised fans last week when he rapped on a remix of Bomba Estéreo’s song Fiesta, in both English and Spanish, and it sounds like Will’s rap was a baby step towards his next musical adventure.

Will has recorded more than 30 songs, with six or seven that he “really, really likes,” the songwriter said on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show.

“I’m trying to get the ideas to come out right. I’m shaking the rust off, knocking the dust off,” said Will.

The Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It star, whose last album was 2005’s Lost and Found, admitted that he is “terrified” about making a new one, and understands the concept of failure.

“When you’ve had a certain amount of success, it seems like it should breed confidence,” said Will. “But it actually doesn’t. When you win a lot, you lose the ability to lose. You’re not allowed to lose anymore.”

The actor, who has three children from two marriages, added: “The reckless abandon – it’s something I’m actually getting back from watching my kids, they really don’t care – that kind of reckless abandon and that lack of fear. Not trying to live up to a legacy or anything like that, that gives you freedom.”

Will openly admitted that his 2013 science fiction film After Earth, which starred his 17-year-old son Jaden, was “a thoroughly and completely accepted failure.”

“You have to fail a lot,” he said. “You have to fail early. You have to fail often. And you have to fail forward. So I’m trying to get comfortable getting back to failing.”

Next year Will and DJ Jazzy Jeff plan to embark on a world tour. “Jeff and I actually have never done a full tour,” said the four-time Grammy winner. “I’m terrified. We’ve had a week run here, two weeks there. I’m really ready, man.”
