Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike is antagonistic of the Rivers state Commissioner of Police, Francis Odesanya.

And this attitude was instrumental to the governor’s refusal to listen to advise by the police chief that would have averted the messy midnight confrontation with security operatives that earned the Rivers state front man a bit of infamy.

The Police Commissioner had arrived the Force Avenue, Portharcourt scene of a sting operation by the Department of State Services  aimed at arresting a supreme court judge, Justice Uche Ogunnuo which was being foiled by Governor Wike about two hours after the face off began.

The police Chief was said to have attempted to douse the situation by prevailing on the Governor to allow the law take it’s course – but the latter refused, turning himself and crew of commissioners, state legislators and party men as shield against the arrest of the Judge by the DSS team.

To prevent a bloody encounter between the two teams, Odesanya ordered the governor’s security details who are police offers to withdraw from the engagement and was immediately obeyed.

Though the Governor eventually prevented the DSS from achieving it’s aim, sources confirm the police commissioner’s action prevented a bad situation from turning worse.

Fresh revelations have now revealed one of the major reasons the governor is antagonistic of the police boss is the fact that the state’s number one cop is from the same local government area with the vice president of the Federation, Ikenne – Ogun state.

”Odesanya and Vice President Osinbajo are from Ikenne and Governor Wike believes the bond between them is naturally stronger than any loyalty he might forged, and so chose to be outrightly against the police boss” a source explained.

Wike is said to believe Odesanya has sympathy for the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The Governor operates on the platform of rival People’s Democratic Party.

Added information have it that Wike went as far as to strongly kicking against the confirmation of Odesanya initially.

”Wike is not ready to work with the police boss, even for his own good..he is just against the man” another source claimed.

More revelations have it that but for the DSS team’s unwillingness to see the operation through, Wike would have been futile in his effort to stop them.

”Only 5 of them came and they abandoned the operation just few hours to day break that the judge said she would open her doors” a source stated.

The team reportedly left when the media and other interested spectators arrived to witness the drama at about 4.30 am.
