For those who dont know, the MD/CEO of TPT International, Tokunbo Modupe has spent about 25 years in the Public Relations and brand management business in Nigeria and he is still shining in the industry.
The dark skinned and slim built Public Relations guru started very early and he has carved a niche for himself as far as PR profession is concerned, both in Nigeria and Africa at large.
However, unknown to many people, Mr Tokunbo Modupe had earlier established and run a company called TL&A communications between 1994 and 1997 prior to the eventual establishment of The Preferred Team International (TPT) in February 1997. TL&A communications was into a little bit of advertising, a bit of PR and a bit of events. But as a result of the fact that PR has always been his passion, he decided to be focused and followed his passion to do something that will give him a kick every now and then. That was why he registered TPT International.
According to Mr Tokunbo Modupe, the motive behind the establishment of The Preferred Team International (TPT) was to set up a team that will be unbeatable in the business. As fate will have it, Tokunbo Modupe’s TPT which started out in February 1998 with only five staff strength at a time the PR industry was not that vibrant expanded tremendously within a short period of time after he had his first breakthrough by virtue of his first contract with Rothmas Groove, which catapulted him from obscurity to a megastar in the industry. He later won another contract with a brand name ‘Kanawa’ which means ‘the people of Kano’.
The project as Tokunbo Modupe personally confessed is considered to be the most ambitious project in West Africa as at then, because it involves a whopping sum of $2 billion.
Moreover, Tokunbo Modupe’s TPT International which has over the years pride itself as the most creative and vibrant PR company with enviable clients like Ondo State, BAT brands (Benson & Hedges, St Moritz, Dunhill, Pall Mall, London Kingsize, Rothmans, etc), Friesland Foods (Peak Milk), Lagos Lottery, British Council, MTN Foundation, Dimension Data, Heritage Banks, MTV Base, NSL Plc, Guinness Nigeria Plc (Corporate and product brands), Peugeot, Pfizer, MMA2 and many more he had worked and still doing businesses with.
Toks (as he is fondly called by friends and colleagues), who few years back built an imposing architectural edifice in the exclusive area of Magodo GRA, Lagos, apart from being one of the foremost PR practitioners in Nigeria has also crossed to an unfamiliar terrain of politics. He was the presidential campaign coordinator of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State during the last general elections in the country and we also gathered that he is aspiring to vie for the gubernatorial seat of Ondo State at the end of this present administration in 2016.
