Shekarau’s Men Under Probe Over N7 Billion Contract Fraud
The Kano State House of Assembly has invited two Commissioners who served
under ex-Governor, Malam Ibrahim shekarau to answer questions over a N7
Billion road project that was awarded during Shekarau’s tenure.
A source from the House told Pointblanknews.com that the contract was not
executed, “but they took the money; we want to know what they did with tax
payers money.”
The source further noted that the road project was awarded without due
process because, “it was a verbal directive which is against the working
of government.”
The probe process which commenced by the summoning of immediate past
Commissioners of Works and Housing, Alhaji Sarki Labaran as well as Musa
Illiyasu Kwankawso of Rural Development, has already had generated
political tension between the Kwankwaso and Shekarau’s camps.
The House which brought before it the two former Commissioners as well as
their former permanent Secretaries alleged that Shekarau through the
ministry of rural development and Works awarded the over N7 billion road
of projects and however the job up till today has not been done.
Reading the Notice of Motion of the House, the Legislative Chamber deputy
Majority Leader Yusuf Babangida, alleged that money were been paid to the
contractor for not doing the job even before he mobilized to site while
the roads are still laying fallow without been executed.
The Roads according to the House are Tattarawa-Jalli which was allegedly
awarded at the cost of 1.5 billion and the job has not been done, than
Konar Kira, Ungogo to Fanisau at the cost of 3.5 billion and over 350
million was allegedly been inflated.
The other road according to the House is Takai, Rimi to Magami which was
said to have been awarded at the cost of 2.5 billion and the work is still
ongoing while the contract sum was said to have been duly paid to the
contractor.
The House accused former Governor Shekarau of awarding the Contract
verbally without the consent of the relevant bodies who are staff of the
Ministries involved, adding that all the job which monies were paid have
not been done and all the contract sums of over N7 Billion have been paid.
However, the summoned Former Commissioner of Rural Developmebnt, Musa
Illiyasu Kwankawso told newsmen as he stepped out of the Legislative
Chamber that, “what is happening is nothing but politics they are not
happy that Shekarau is getting Ministerial post, but they cannot do
otherwise.
“All they are asking are nothing but speculative issues and we are fully
ready for them, they should come with concrete evidence then we know they
are serious, the entire job we did followed diligent due process and we
did them with the due sense of humility and law.
“You can see they are not even comprehensive in their actions because
they were asked to tarnish Shekarau’s image, but they have failed and the
greatest failure will come in 2015 when we will chase them and their
red-caps away from Government House,” Musa Illyasu concluded.
