Senator Solomon Adeola representing Lagos west Senatorial District has stated that senators as people representatives are more accessible to the ordinary people than ministers of government at the federal level.

Speaking while hosting over two scores of students of Lagos State Polytechnic  who were on a study
tour of National Assembly in his office  Senator Adeola said in the whole of the Federal Government only the President , Vice President and legislators of the National Assembly were elected as true representatives of the Federal Government stressing that as peoples representatives they are always closer to the peoples yearnings and aspirations than unelected ministers and bureaucrats  who often enjoy better perks of office than legislators.

“I am sure you know that it is practically impossible for your delegation to see a minister without notification as you are seeing me know. They are unelected and have to pass through the confirmation of the Senate to be minister. Yet most of them have a convoy of 4 vehicles with State Service and Police escorts and some misguided persons would be quick to condemn a single vehicle for an elected senator of the Federal Republic” Adeola stated.

While explaining the rudiments of the operations of the National Assembly to the students, Senator Adeola said the National Assembly has the power to summon and possibly call for the arrest of anyone in course of investigations on any matter it has power to make laws stressing that the students should move closer to their representatives to appreciate the workings of government instead of being used for political advantage.

On the students’ query on the way out of the economic downturn, Senator Adeola traced our economic problems to the mono product economy of crude oil that we operated over the years stressing that in spite of relative rise in crude oil prices in recent times, Nigeria should not rejoice
but rather concentrate on diversification of the economy particularly in agricultural production and solid mineral exploitation.

Earlier on the leader of the students, Mr. Aworinde Gbolahan commended the Senator for seeing them without any notification stressing that his records of achievement in educational empowerment with most recent being 500 free JAMB forms has endeared him to the youth of the nation
