The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) seems to be in quagmire over the role of President Mohammadu Buhari in the leadership structure of the party.
While answering questions via the telephone on Channels Television’s programme, Sunrise Daily monitored by yemojanewsng.com over the involvement of the party in choosing the leadership of the National Assembly, one of the anchors of the programme asked the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed if President Buhari is the leader of the APC, but he couldn’t give an affirmative answer.
In Lai Mohammed’s words, “ President Buhari is a product of the party, the APC has many leaders and President Buhari is one of them”
The APC is currently involved in internal squabble as members of the National Assembly elect the leaders of both Senate and the House of Representatives. While the APC the leadership are routing for Senator Ahmed Lawan as Senate President and Hon Femi Gbajabiamila as Speaker of House of Representatives, some other members have cried foul and put their own candidates; Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President and Hon Yakubu Dogara as Speaker, House of Reps.
As members of the National Assembly choose its leadership, it is expected that the APC goes into the election in one voice, but that is not the case as the party has no leadership to whip its members in line.
