Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district, Buruji Kasamu has opened up on why he is throwing his weight and financial muscle behind a former Minister for Education, Professor Tunde Adeniran to become the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party at the December 9 National Convention of the party.
According to the Ogun State senator, as the most senior elected politician in the South West he cannot sit back and allow Bode George and Gbenga Daniel to clinch the exalted office because they will continue the era of impunity and lawlessness which the National Caretaker chairman, Ahmed Makarfi has instituted on the party since taking over the reign of leadership from Senator Ali Modu Sheriff through a controversial Supreme Court judgement.
Kasamu, who addressed members of his Omo Foundation in Ijebu Igbo on Tuesday where several buses for the Adeniran campaign are being branded, said “all the gains at repositioning PDP by Ali Modu Sheriff had been frittered away by Makarfi and his illegal Caretaker Committee and some of us in good conscience could not just sit down and be watching to allow people of questionable character to ride on the wave of Makarfi and take over the control of the party”
“Professor Adeniran is a founding member of PDP, he knows the history of the party and he knows those of us who have been contributing and spending our financial resources to stabilise and keeping the party afloat. He will return us to our rightful position in the party when he becomes the National chairman.”
“As you can see, people like Sheriff have abandoned the party because they are angry, they are not happy about how they were treated after doing so much to build the party after the loss of the 2015 elections”
Senator Kasamu however promised to spend his last Kobo to ensure that Adeniran wins at the Convention as he is the only good thing to happen to the party, while condemning what he called the “inordinate ambition” of Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose to contest the 2019 Presidential election, saying “he is just waiting his time, he is trying to run away from EFCC probe after his tenure”
Kasamu, who cannot hide his anger, expressed his displeasure about Chief Olabode George and former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel for being in the race, said it is over his dead body that the two men will emerge as the National Chairman of the PDP.
He accused Bode George of being behind his travails with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, using his wife as the head of the Federal agency to instigate his (Kasamu’s) failed abduction in 2015, while accusing the former Deputy National Chairman of the party of behaving as if he owns the PDP especially during the Ali Modu Sheriff saga.
On Daniel, Senator Kasamu maintained that he will continue the era of impunity and disobedience of court orders being perpetrated now by Makarfi.
According to Kasamu, he attended the official declaration of Professor Adeniran for the office of national chairman to show solidarity with him. “You know, I am not a man who will hide behind one finger, when I believe in something, I go for it. I don’t pretend. As you can see, I have also converted several of the buses for my Lotto business and rebrand them for Adeniran, that means I can go to any length to ensure his victory”
