Our Commitment Goes Beyond Achieving, But Sustaining MDGs – Aregbesola

The Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, has assured that his administration does not only believe in attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) but also going ahead to ensure the sustenance of the programme.

Aregbesola spoke on Friday, 14th March, 2014, at the 36th Annual Lions’ Day With The United Nations which took place at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

Aregbesola spoke on the theme of the programme: In Fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals.

Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on MDGs, Honourable Abdullahi Adeyanju Binuyo, the Osun State Governor stated that, “the MDGs is aimed at ensuring rapid development and improvement of the standard of living particularly in the developing world.

“The six point Integral Action Plan of the Aregbesola administration weaves seamlessly into the MDGs target as vectors in socio-economic inclusion, poverty eradication, wealth creation, healthy living, infrastructure development and sustainable community development.”

Binuyo stated further that the Aregbesola has invested enormous political capital and remarkable personal commitment towards sustaining the gains recorded so far in the drive towards achieving the MDGs.

“The Rauf Aregbesola administration has set in motion, an irreversible system that would make qualitative education delivery effective and has restored the populace confidence in public schools through a massive investment in building infrastructure and assurance of quality in the teaching and learning process through the introduction of the electronic device, Opon IMO – a UN global award winner,” Binuyo said.

He concluded thus, “there is considerable reduction in the infant and maternal mortalities, improved access to safe water, the spread of HIV and malaria has been effectively caged and our environment are safe and cleaner that it was years back” assuring further that the present administration in Osun State has committed itself to making life better for the people through eradication of poverty, the pivot programme on the MDGs’ agenda.
