Ogun 2019: Osoba Is Not Against Ogun West

First Bank Nigeria

My attention has been drawn to a press conference held in Abeokuta by some group of Elders from Ogun West purporting that Chief Olusegun Osoba, a former governor of Ogun state is not in support of Ogun West for Governor in 2019 based on some of his interviews in recent times.

As someone who served Chief Osoba as Chief Press Secretary and later as Senior Consultant to the Governor, I made bold to say that these elders completely misread the interviews of Chief Osoba with the regrettable part that none of them had deemed it fit to seek clarifications from Chief Osoba as a stakeholder in Ogun state on his stand on Ogun West for Governor in 2019.

Indeed, most of the key personalities at the press conference were key officials and cabinet members appointed by Chief Osoba as governor during his two administrations and should ordinarily not find it difficult to approach him for his stand on any issue. It is regrettable that they have allowed present temporal interests to severe links to their earlier benefactor to the extent of not seeking being on talking terms.

To the best of my knowledge, Chief Osoba is firmly committed to the Ogun West for Governor in 2019 based on equity, justice and fair play. This much I can see from his misinterpreted interviews.  Indeed, he have a passion for the development of Ogun West as during his administration, Ogun West had the highest number of top political appointees, a situation that led the late Professor (Senator) Afolabi Olabimtan to lead a thank you visit to him as governor.

Such appointments includes the Secretary to the State Government, Commissioners, VC of state University and chairmen of boards of government agencies among others  headed by some of the people that addressed the press against him.

It is also on record that under the administration of Chief Osoba, many social amenities were provided for Ogun West and so far his record of construction of roads in Ogun West remained unrivaled till date. His role in Yewa people having a paramount ruler cannot also be diminished.

One can therefore explain the allegation that Chief Osoba is against Ogun West interest in any form today to be completely misconceived and borne out of some selfish ulterior political considerations not called for at this point in time in the history of Ogun state.

Signed:

Chief Kayode Odunaro

Former Chief Press Secretary to Chief Olusegun Osoba
