More companies based in Lagos may be sanctioned for not adhering to the safety measures put in place by the state government.
This is hinged on  the commencement of Lagos State Safety Commission’s move to commence a safety inspection exercise of companies across the state.
The exercise which is anchored on the directive of Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode that the Commission should raise a safety inspection team which will go round the state to ensure that companies and other corporate organisations adhere with the safety rules of the state.
The inspection team would among other things: verify allegation of breach of Labour Law in the companies and institutions visited, determine their safety and level of their compliance to international standard, and also determine the state of equipment use and evaluate the threat level to lives and alleged enslavery of their workforce.
The Director General, Fouad Oki, stated that the inspection would not be limited to companies but will also include Hotels, Public and Private schools as well as tertiary Institutions among others.
“The aim of the inspection is intended to encourage companies and other organisations to comply with safety law. Where we find out that the state safety rules are being violated, we will order such companies to stop working until they correct the safety violation,” he said.
Oki explained that the safety inspection commences Tuesday, 6th October, 2015, with visits to Queenlux Night Club on Ozumba Mbadiwe Street, Victoria Island.
The team is also expected to visit and inspect safety rules in companies on Fatai Atere Way, Companies in Agidingbi, Recars Club in Opebi, Wahum in Ikeja amongst others.
The Government expects total compliance to safety measures for avoidance of unwarranted cases of loss of lives and property.
