A man identified as Tochukwu has been arraigned at a Magistrate sitting in Aba North local government area of Abia state presided over by P.O Okpom for allegedly stealing N7, 000 church funds.

Tochukwu was said to have on September 16, gone to his church, St. Margaret Catholic Church for evening mass and allegedly stole the amount from the church.

A member of the church who spoke on the condition of anonymity stated that after the Mass, the suspect hid himself in a corner of the church building until all the worshippers had gone home and church attendants locked the doors of the church.

Tochukwu was alleged to have stole the sum of N7, 295 being offering from the evening service kept in the church.

Private security men attached to the church arrested Tochukwu and handed him over to the  men of the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Aba Area command.

After interrogation, the stolen money was allegedly recovered from him while he was also charged to court on one count charge of breaking and entering a church and stealing.

Police prosecutor, Anuwa Prince said the offence is punishable under Section 415 of the Criminal code Cap 80 Vol. 3Laws of Abia State of Nigeria 2005.

When the charge was read to Tochukwu, he pleaded not guilty and the Magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000 and one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned to October 15, 2013.
