It is not uncommon these days to hear that Lagos State House of Assembly is broke.

Not that the state government has not been releasing money to the lawmaking body, but we learned the cause of the new development is self caused.

A reliable source in the assembly stated that the politicians in the assembly are making serious preparations for the 2015 elections and that all hands are on deck to ensure there is enough money to pursue the venture.

Yemojanews was told that an agreement has been reached among the inner caucus in the assembly that money should be reserved for the forthcoming political campaign that would take off after the party primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) later in the year.

An informant disclosed that one of the ways that have been mapped out to enrich the lawmakers is to approve international seminars for them so that they could make money from the accompanying estacode.

“What we hear these days is that there is no money in the assembly, but that is not the absolute truth. The state government has never reneged in the payment of our monthly allocation, but you know this is election year and the lawmakers are conserving funds for their election campaign,” said a source.

Another source also stressed that the lawmakers would not devote much time to sitting this year because of the forthcoming elections, which is why they have only sat for few days since the year started.

“This is election year, you can see that they have been adjourning sittings each time they sit. They are preparing for the next election and so you don’t expect them to feel comfortable sitting regularly,” he said.

Those who should know also told us that the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji is also not resting on his oars to emerge the governorship candidate of the APC in 2015.

They said that Ikuforiji has been assured by top leaders of the party that he would get the party’s ticket for the plum office, and that it was because of people like him that the position was zoned to Lagos East by the party’s leaders.

According to them, “Ikuforiji would not take anything less than being the party’s governorship candidate in 2015, but we will keep our fingers crossed because nobody knows how the issue would be resolved because several others are interested in the ticket.”
