The Chairman, House of Representatives’ Committee on Rural Development, Honourable Oladipupo Adebutu has called on Nigerians to embrace national unity and love for one another.

In a statement released to commemorate the June 12 1993 annulled elections, Hon. Adebutu said the aura of unity, love and togetherness which was exemplified by the collective votes for Nigeria’s President that was never to be, Late M.K.O Abiola, across the country should be our guiding principle at this time in the nation’s history.

“The testimonies of the exemplary life of Late Chief M.K.O Abiola encompasses all that we presently lack as a nation. At a time like this when divergent agitation for succession and unpatriotic ethnic-based accusations and counter accusations have taken the centre stage of our national discourse, we should look back and take a cue from that moment of unity where all Nigerians took the interest of the country above parochial personal, sectional and religious interests. We should focus our collective energy into building our nation irrespective of who we are or where we are coming from”, Adebutu stressed.

Lending his voice to the clamour for true federalism and restructuring, Hon. Adebutu reiterated that rather than the division of the country across ethnic lines, development will come easier to the country if true federalism and economic restructuring of the country are put in place
