The Restart PDP Group has filed a suit asking an Abuja High Court to stop the party’s national convention slated for May 21, until the PDP membership register is computerised as stipulated in section 8(11) of its constitution.
The suit was filed by Engineer Nwosu Emmanuel and Mr. Eze Chuks Silas, heightening fears that fresh crisis is brewing in the party.

The two members, who filed the suit on March 8, are also asking the court to order the PDP national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and other National Working Committee (NWC) members to vacate their offices by the end of this month
The PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) had approved May 21, as official date for the party’s convention to be held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as proposed by the Sheriff-led NWC.
But former ministers of the PDP, who served between 1999 and 2015, and the PDP Restart Group, are insisting that all members of the NWC, including the new chairman, who was given till May, 2016, to steer the affairs of the party, should vacate their offices on March 31.
Engineer Emmanuel and Silas are asking the court to “restrain the 1st defendant, PDP, and all its organs from conducting party congresses and the 2016 national convention, pending the computerisation of the party membership register, as stipulated in Section 8(11) of the party’s constitution.
Section 8(11) of PDP Constitution says: “The party membership register shall be computerised to ensure control and to avoid fraud, and all ward registers shall be closed one month to congresses.”
According to a copy of the originating summons with suit number Cv/1174/16 filed at a Federal High Court in Abuja, Engr Emmanuel and Silas are the plaintiff while PDP, Sheriff and the NWC are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd defendants respectively.
When contacted, the spokesman of the Restart PDP Group, Chief Jackson Ude, said the suit became necessary to ensure that the PDP allowed its constitution to prevail instead of “back-door agreement by few selfish individuals in the party.”
