After Phyno’s sold out concert at the Nnamdi Azikwe stadium, all eyes were on street king Olamide.
How will he fare with his own Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos show was the burning question.
Well, the result is out.
Low turn out marred the fourth edition of Olamide Live In Concert held yesterday, Sunday, December 17, 2017.
And this is despite the fact that the Lagos state government threw its weight behind the “concert”.
What went wrong?
Here is the summation of the reasons from multiple sources.
1, In choosing the venue Olamide and his crew failed to take into consideration a major factor- his music is very popular on the street but it wasn’t the street that filled up Eko Hotel, the posh venue of earlier editions of OLIC.
2, The larger percentage of those filled up Eko Hotel for past editions don’t want to mingle with those from the streets.
3, There is the issue of ’’ class’’.
4, And there is the issue of security.
5, Recent reports about Lagos street carnival where mugging, stabbing, and rape were alleged did not encourage audience with economic power to risk an Olamide show at a stadium.
6, The venue is a stadium, a stadium located in “surelere” – the base of shot callers in the hood.
7, The turn out showed the street where Olamide has spectacular following does not have the economic power to luxury in an Olamide Concert.
8, The street are majorly struggling people, hustling people who can get his music for free through downloads or at the highest price of N100 and enjoy it and make noise about it to be in tune and generally make their lives easier ..anything beyond that is beyond the bargain and added burden to their toil for most of them.
9, Fans are divided as industry beef raged the entertainment world.
10, Whiz kid, Davido fans would rather stay away from Olamide concert to prevent him from outshining their favorite while phyno’s fan support him as one of their own.
11, Fuel scarcity creeping in and crippling movements didn’t help his cause.
12, He has a major rival event in Ovation Red Carol, a yearly ritual for many fun lover.
13, Competitor event, Ovation Red Carol paraded crowd puller artistes and was held at the more secure venue.
