There are feelers from the political camp of controversial businessman cum politician, Senator Kasham Buruji that he is tinkering with the idea of countering the 2019 governorship election in Ogun State.
Senator Buruji who represents Ogun East Senatorial district in the upper legislative chamber is a very ambitious man that throws his enormous financial resources into achieving his ambition.
A dependable source informed yemojanewsng.com that some trusted political associates of the billionaire are already drumming it into his ears that he has got all it takes to win a governorship election in Ogun State.
One of the political associates of Senator Buruji informed yemojanewsng.com that the political calculations favor Senator Buruji as the next governor of Ogun State, owing to the fact that it is likely that the People Democratic Party (PDP), which Buruji belongs to, will zone the governorship seat to Ogun East senatorial district of the State in 2019.
“When Gbenga Daniel was leaving in 2011, after spending his 8 years, he made sure he zoned the governorship seat to Ogun West, because till now, it’s only Ogun West that has not produced a governor since the creation of the state. We all know what happened. Gbenga Daniel led all his supporters from the PDP to People Party of Nigeria (PPN) when he couldn’t reach agreement with former president Obasanjo on the choice of PDP’s flagbearer.
“PPN had an Ogun West person, Prince Gboyega Isiaka as its candidate while Obasanjo too fielded retired general Tunji Olurin as the PDP candidate. So, two Ogun West candidates were fielded against the candidate of the then ACN in the person of incumbent governor, Ibikunle Amosun. Amosun defeated them and won to become governor. That was in 2011.
“In the 2015 elections, the PDP fielded Prince Gboyega Isiaka as its candidate to contest against gov Amosun’s re-election. The choice of Isiaka was borne out of the fact that there will be a block votes for him by his people in Ogun West, while he gets the support of the Ijebu people in Ogun East, while gov Amosun stands alone in Ogun Central. But that was not the case as Gboyega Isiaka lost in Ogun west to Amosun. The Ijebu people delivered, but Isiaka couldn’t get support from his own people”. The source explained.
The source further stated that the PDP will not give Ogun West any other chance. “They have shown they don’t want their son to be governor. So, in the 2015 election, we are zoning the ticket to Ogun East because Amosun is using the ticket of Ogun Central now. If they like in APC, they can zone theirs to Ogun West, but PDP is done in experimenting with Ogun West. So, Senator Kashamu Buruji is our sure bet for the 2015 governorship elections”.
Meanwhile, a close confidant of Senator Buruji who served under the administration of former governor Gbenga Daniel as a commissioner spoke with yemojanewsng.com on condition of anonymity said Senator Buruji is not thinking about 2015 governorship elections now.
“Buruji, I can tell you has not said anything to me about it. You know he is new in politics and just learning, since this is his first experience in the National Assembly. But one can not rule out the fact that when the time comes, he won’t jump at the offer. Yes, it is true that Ogun west has bungled their chances, and it’s likely the 2015 governorship ticket is zone to Ogun east. I will support Buruji if he wants to vie. He has all its takes to win Ogun State governorship elections,” The former commissioner stated.
