OGSG Compensates Victims Of Ita-Osu Market Inferno

Ogun State government has presented cheques to victims of the inferno which occurred at Olabisi Onabanjo International Market, Ita-Osu, Ijebu-Ode, penultimate week, which rendered victims’ businesses paralysed and devastated.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, while presenting cheques to victims at the market area, pointed out that the present administration would always be responsive and responsible to the yearnings of his people and an indication of government commitments to the welfare of its residents.
He advised the leadership of the market as well as shops owners to cooperate and join hands with the government to make the market more attractive by ensuring its cleanliness and safety at all times.
According to the Governor, “The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has earlier met with the Market Executives and the victims to ascertain the extent of the damage and very soon, plans will commence to re-design the market to make it an edifice of international standard”.
Earlier in her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, commended the Governor for the quick intervention, saying all hands has been on deck to ensure that victims were compensated.
“Since the Governor has come to our aid within nine days of the incident, we need to reciprocate the gesture by cooperating with the government in its rebuilding our future together agenda, as well as come up with ideas that will move the international market forward. The gesture has demonstrated our Governor’s commitment to improving the welfare of the citizenry”, she said
Also speaking, the Iyaloja of the Market, Chief Mrs. Oloruntele Ogunba,  said the intervention was timely and appreciated Governor Abiodun for putting smiles on the faces of the victims within nine days, describing him as a father and a caring Governor.
In her contribution, the Secretary, Iyalaje in-Council for market men and women in Ijebuland, Princess Sade Alatishe, while appreciating the State Government, assured of traders’ support in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chief Titus Olisakwe, lauded government for the intervention which would help in resuscitating their businesses, pledging to support government through prompt payment of taxes and be obedient to State’s laws.
