One of the six seeded teams in the Olubadan CUP competition 2020, Ogbomoso Utd stormed Ibadan few days ago with a promise to win the trophy for CROWN FC which was defeated 3-1 by IBADAN LIONS last year.
Ibadan LIONS was a team put together by the Ibadan football Association (IFA) within five days and which humbled National League Division One side, Crown FC of Ogbomoso by 3 goals to 1in the first edition of Governor Seyi Makinde Pre-season Soccer tournament.
Ogbomoso Utd, a Nationwide League club signified its interest to take part in the “Royal Rumble ” and is the first team outside Ibadanland to do this.
The 30-man team drove straight to Olubadan stadium to meet with IFA Chairman, Barr. Rotimi Alli who expressed his delight at seeing the team and wished them luck.
After watching part of the matches of the Aare Afe Babalola League Cup, the youthful team left the stadium to go freshen up for its match against Soccer Ambassadors (Team B) later today.
Meanwhile, Star-studded Liberty All -Stars will light up the Olubadan Stadium this afternoon as it confronts IFA league 2019 first runners -up VIA ACADEMY.
Basking in the euphoria of its well-deserved 2-0 pounding of DIAMOND FC in the first round of the championship, LIBERTY ALL-STARS looked good to carry the day considering the array of former soccer superstars that are in the team.
Muyiwa Lawal (Kokoro ), Daniel Osuata, Kola Ademola among others may turn the table against the more younger VIA ACADEMY.
VIA ACADEMY on the other hand had lost many of its players to greener pastures both within and beyond the shores of the country.
That notwithstanding, VIA will count on the youthfulness and stamina of its players which would count against the ALL-STARS team which parades older but experienced players.
The match promises to be exciting and would be full of anxious moments. It’s a contention of youth against experience…. could go either way or end in penalty shoot out.
