Legendary Reggae Singer, Majek Fashek Is Dead

  1. Legendary reggae singer, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek, is dead.

The popular musician, died in New York, United States of America yesterday, June 1st, 2020.

His cousin, Joy Tongo, former artiste manager to Cynthia Morgan confirmed the story on her Instagram handle @joytongo, when she wrote, “Legendary musician, Mr. Majek Fashek, my uncle passed on today in New York City.”

His manager, Omenka Uzoma, also confirmed the passage of the great star when he posted on his Instagram page: “Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORDhis Maker,” he said.

“I would say we should celebrate his achievements, he has done a lot for Nigeria and for Nigeria. Whatever the family decides, I will get to you. This is all I have to say for now.”

Born in Benin City, Edo State, on February 6, 1949, Majek was best known for his 1988 album, ‘Prisoner of Conscience’, which contained his hit song ‘Send Down The Rain’. He was dubbed ‘The Rainmaker’ following the success of that song.

Majek had been in and out of hospital in the last few years battling a protracted ailment.
