Residents of Agege, Pen Cinema, and Iju road may soon have relief over perennial traffic gridlock in the Pen Cinema roundabout.
This may become a reality as Lagos lawmakers at their Thursday, 30th July, 2015 plenary session passed a resolution, calling on the state Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, to urgently direct the appropriate Ministry, Agency or Board to embark on the construction of flyover across Pen Cinema, connecting Oba Ogunji/Agunbiade and Iju road, as part of implementation of the Agege/ Ifako Model City Plan.
The House in a motion moved by Hon. Oluyinka Ogundimu, representing Agege State Constituency 2; and supported by Hon. Makinde Rasheed, Ifako Ijaye State Constituency 2; and others, noted that the bridges (flyover) will reduce human/ vehicular traffic, save human lives while enhancing and promoting economic activities.
The lawmakers further observed that motorists and commuters plying Agege axis, enroute Pen Cinema usually experience daily chaotic traffic jam leading to accidents, traffic gridlock, loss of lives, loss of precious man hours and untold hardship on residents of the communities, while taking cognizance that the Agege/ Ifako Model City Plan provides for a flyover across Pen Cinema connecting Oba Ogunji/Agunbiade and Iju roads.
The traffic gridlock in the aforementioned areas, according to the Lagos lawmakers, is worrisome and unless urgent step is taken by the state government at addressing the problem, Lagosians, whose economic activities are tied to this axis, would continue to suffer.
Contributing, Hon. Sola Giwa of Lagos Island State Constituency 2, enjoined his colleagues to support the motion and urged the government to put population growth and infrastructure development while planning the city into consideration.
Hon. Tunde Buraimoh representing Kosofe State Constituency 2 compared the popular Pen Cinema junction to the Ojuelegba junction in Lagos and Mokola junction in Ibadan. He cited the construction of flyovers at these aforementioned junctions as a great relief to the traffic problems being experienced there overtime. He therefore urged the state government to take cue and embark on the construction of the flyover to ease sufferings of residents and motorists plying the axis..
Hon. Adefunmilayo Tejuoso, Mushin State Constituency 1, supporting the motion, called on the Lagos State Government to appreciate the population of the people of Agege, which is still on the rise, stating that the constituency have about 10 housing estates with huge population of people and as such deserve the amenity.
