Former Lagos State governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is said to be making surreptitious plan to install his son, Seyi as the next governor of Lagos State.
Those privy to the information revealed that Tinubu, popularly called Jagaban Borgu made it clear to the incumbent Governor of the coastal state, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu that he would only be allowed to rule the state for just one term.
It will be recalled that the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, who ruled the state from 2015 to 2019 was denied a second term of office in 2019 by Tinubu.
Moreso, it is no longer news that the current Minister of Power and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, who governed the state for two terms from 2007 to 2015, was almost denied a second term by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in 2011, but he was saved by some leaders of the party, who intervened in the matter.
But, former governor Akinwunmi Ambode was not so lucky and the same scenario is said to be about to play out against Governor Sanwo-Olu.
Sources close to the APC leaders in the state said Tinubu’s latest plan has unsettled top members of the APC, who view the development as not too good.
They were said to be concerned that Tinubu is becoming selfish with the way he is planting his family members into key elective offices in the state.
They gave instances of Tinubu’s wife, Senator Oluremi, who has been in the senate since 2011 as well as her elder sister, Hon. Lola Akande, who initially served as a member of the state House of Assembly from 2007 to 2015.
Akande was later appointed as the commissioner for women affairs and poverty alleviation under ex-governor Ambode from 2015 to 2019, and she is currently serving as the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in the state.
They also mentioned Tinubu’s daughter, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, who was made Iyaloja General of Nigeria by Tinubu to succeed his mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, who died few years back.
“This is becoming too much for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Why can’t he allow Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu serve for two terms and later the party would now choose his successor through a democratic process.
“We will not allow one man to continue to dominate all the affairs of the party in the state.
“Tinubu should learn from what happened to the Saraki Family in Kwara State and how former chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was disgraced in the just-concluded governorship election in Edo State,” said a source close to the party.
Seyi Tinubu is an entrepreneur, father and husband of Layal Tinubu.
He is the CEO of an out-of-home advertising company, Loatsad Promomedia Ltd, Patron to STL Polo Team and member of the Board of several organizations.
