Hon. Adekoya Congratulates New NUJ Chairman, charges on Professionalism

Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adesegun Abdel-Majid Adekoya has congratulated newly elected Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Waheed Odusile and other executive members recently elected at their National Convention in Abuja, saying their election is well deserved and a sign that democracy has come to take firm root in all facets of the Nigerian life.
He therefore call on the new leadership of the Fourth Estate of the Realm to ensure professionalism both in conduct and practices among its members so as to ensure wholesome development for the nation and its politics.
“The hallmark of democracy is the principle of separation of powers, the strict compliance to the Rule of Law and the expression of divergent views, while the media, especially journalists have a role to play in keeping the people adequately informed about government activities, and also serving as watchdogs on government on programmes and policies so as to prevent a dictatorship.
“It therefore behooves on the journalists to play their role efficiently and adhering to their professional ethics as unbiased ombudsman and informed conscience of the people.
“I congratulate Mr. Waheed Odusile, his newly elected executive members, whose elections must have been as a result of their proven track records in best ethical practices and contributions to the development of Journalism in Nigeria. I wish them a successful tenure in this onerous task of contributing positively to the the development of Nigeria.
“I also rejoice with all members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists for the successful hosting of their National Convention and election of a new leadership under Waheed Odusile”.
