Ex-Kwara Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed In EFCC Net Over Alleged Fraud

Anti-graft detectives on Monday questioned Abdulfatah Ahmed at their office in Ilorin over multiple allegations of corruption, Peoples Gazette learnt.

Mr. Ahmed served two terms as Kwara governor between 2011 and 2019 He faced relentless charges of graft shortly after leaving office in May 2019. Several of his former aides and associates had been questioned by detectives over alleged fraud linked to Mr. Ahmed’s tenure.

On Monday, Mr. Ahmed was questioned over a slew of sharp practices, including whether or not he inflated contracts for private jet charters during his administration, EFCC sources said. He did not immediately return a request seeking comments.

It was unclear when he would be arraigned in court. The session with the EFCC weeks after Kwara legislators asked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to immediate launch a expansive probe of Mr. Ahmed’s administration over suspected mismanagement of public funds.

Anti-graft officials could not immediately say whether or not Mr. AbdulRazaq had petitioned their office with corruption claims against Mr. Ahmed.
