Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has reportedly Pleaded with the duo of Gboyega Nasir Isiaka a.k.a GNI and a former member of the Federal House of Representatives from Egbado South/Ipokia Federal Constituency in 2015, Hon Abiodun Akinlade to drop their senatorial ambition for Ogun West under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan a.k.a Yayi.

Sources revealed that while GNI was given an option to contest for House of Representatives position to represent Yewa North/Imeko Afon Federal Constituency, Akinlade would be contesting to represent Egbado South/Ipokia Federal Constituency.

The development was reportedly borne our of the belief that only Yayi has the capacity to defeat the incumbent Senator Tolu Odebiyi, representing Ogun West under the APC in the 2023 general elections as ranking lawmaker with all the necessary connections.

It will be recalled that Yayi is currently representing Lagos West Senatorial District, an office he assumed in 2015 after serving in the Lagos State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2011 and in the Federal House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015 from Alimosho Federal Constituency.

He is said to be moving to Ogun State as an indigene of Yewaland to replicate what he has been doing in Lagos State for his people in Ogun State and even do it better.

GNI will be struggling the ticket with about five aspirants from the federal constituency, including Hon. Kayode Oladele, Rt. Hon. Suraju Adekunbi, Wasiu Isiaka (Nasir’s brother), Tope Kuyebi and the incumbent Reps of the region, Hon. Jimoh Olaifa.

Hon. Kayode Oladele who represented the federal constituency between 2015-2019 was the was the Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Financial Crimes of the 8th Assembly in the green chamber., Rt. Honourable Suraju Adekunbi the immediate Ogun state House of Assembly speaker is also a formidable aspirant in the race

Others include the incumbent Reps, Hon. Jimoh Olaifa who run on the same platform of African Democratic Congress, ADC with GNI in 2019 general elections, Engr. Tope Kuyebi and Alhaji Wasiu Isiaka who is a sibling to the three time gubernatorial candidate.

We were reliably informed that the development was due to the plan of the Governor and the party to carry everybody along and protect all the interest groups within the party in the state.

Isiaka, a three-time governorship candidate in Ogun State came third in the 2019 election, which was won by Governor Dapo Abiodun of the APC.

Akinlade has also represented Ogun State in the Federal Character Commission (FCC) after leaving the House of Reps in 2019.
